The Search

A bouquet wasn't enough,

So I twirled a ribbon and pulled

Reluctant

Tendrils with a knife.

A penny wasn't enough,

So I emptied the piggy,

Thoughtfully,

Squealing my anticipation.

A branch wasn't enough,

So I smashed the olives

Drooping,

Then tossed a salad.

What, would be enough?

I placed the flowers on the table,

Giggled coined pockets,

Left a bottle...

Enough?

Sorry, came to mind...

But was it enough?

Willfulness gone...

I'm sorry, said the note...

I stole away...

Enough?

...Were the flowers

Beckoning,

Enough?

From the garden,

That had roots...

Enough?

"Sorry!"

Deep

Enough
